Tawang, July 6: The 90th birth anniversary of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama was celebrated with grandeur and solemn devotion in Arunachal Pradesh, with key events in Tawang and West Kameng districts.
In Lumla (Tawang), at the Gyalwa Jampa Lhakhang near the Bhutan border, ceremonial rituals were conducted by His Eminence the 12th Guru Tulku Rinpoche, accompanied by monks and devotees. He said, “This is an auspicious moment for us… May His Holiness live long and healthy.”
Meanwhile, a large gathering at Thubchog Gatsel Ling Monastery in Bomdila (West Kameng) paid profound respect to the Dalai Lama. The day began with a procession carrying the Dalai Lama’s portrait from the local Tibetan Settlement Office, as monks and locals chanted prayers and appealed for his long life.
The celebratory program continued with a cake-cutting ceremony in the monastery courtyard, followed by prayers and traditional dance performances by various community groups and schoolchildren—adding vibrant cultural flair to the event.
On his birthday, His Holiness addressed well-wishers via X, expressing gratitude for the global celebrations and emphasizing the values of compassion and inner peace.
“While it is important to work for material development, it is vital to focus on achieving peace of mind through cultivating a good heart and by being compassionate… Through this, you will contribute to making the world a better place.”
He identified himself as “just a simple Buddhist monk” and reaffirmed his commitment to “promoting human values, religious harmony, drawing attention to the ancient Indian wisdom…, and Tibetan culture and heritage.
