Williamagar, January 12: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Eastern Zone, Williamnagar, has expressed deep grief over the tragic and untimely death of Late Dilseng M. Sangma, an A·chik Matgrik, and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the ACHIK Organisation and the entire A·chik community.

In a condolence statement, the Union said the loss was not only a personal tragedy for the family but an irreparable blow to the wider A·chik community. Remembering Late Dilseng M. Sangma as a courageous son of the soil, the GSU said his sacrifice would be remembered with profound respect and sorrow, while affirming its solidarity with the grieving family during this difficult time.

The GSU, Eastern Zone, strongly condemned the heinous and brutal incident, which allegedly involved illegal stone quarry miners, stating that such unlawful and violent acts have no place in a peaceful society and pose a serious threat to the safety and harmony of local communities.

Raising concern over the growing menace of illegal activities, the Union demanded the immediate arrest of all those involved and called on the authorities to ensure a swift, fair and impartial investigation to deliver justice. It further demanded the immediate closure of all illegal stone quarry operations and the eviction of illegal settlers in the area, stressing that strict and permanent measures must be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

At the same time, the GSU appealed to the public to maintain peace, unity and communal harmony, urging citizens to refrain from any form of violence or actions that could disturb public order.

Reaffirming its commitment, the GSU, Eastern Zone, Williamnagar, said it would continue to stand firmly for justice, peace and the protection of the rights and lives of the A·chik people. The statement was issued by Goera R. Sangma, President, GSU Eastern Zone, Williamnagar.
