GSU, parents warn contractor over crumbling road to Loyola School in Williamnagar

Must read

Williamnagar, Oct 29: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU), East Garo Hills Zone and parents of Loyola Secondary School, Dawagre, have issued a strong warning to the contractor responsible for the long-delayed road construction leading to the school, demanding immediate action to restore the severely damaged stretch.

Loyola Secondary School continues to suffer from poor road connectivity, making daily commutes difficult for students and parents. Despite the road project being sanctioned long ago to ATW India Pvt. Ltd, there has been little to no visible progress.

Frustrated by official inaction, parents have repeatedly pooled money to carry out temporary repairs on their own, but the patchwork solutions have only offered short-term relief.

In a bid to hold authorities accountable, GSU leaders and parents met Executive Engineer (PWD Roads), Keith Mallory G. Momin, on Wednesday. During the meeting, Momin assured that construction would begin within seven days, even contacting the company’s manager on the spot to direct immediate mobilisation of work.

He also warned that the contractor would be blacklisted if work fails to start within the stipulated time, citing negligence of public interest.

The GSU and parents urged the authorities to stand by their word, warning that any further delay could lead to stronger collective action to safeguard the welfare of Loyola’s students.
