Guwahati, Nov 7: Guwahati guzzled booze worth Rs. 5 crore in the two festive days of Diwali, Kamrup (Metro) excise department has revealed.
November 4 and 5 were the two days of Diwali that was celebrated throughout the state.
Excise department revealed that a total of Rs. 5,01,32,000 worth of Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) was sold in the city.
This consists, IMFL worth Rs. 2,56,70,000 sold on November 4 and on November 5 alcohol worth Rs. 2,44,62,000 was sold in Guwahati.
Road accidents during festivity
However, the festivity was somewhat marred by an increase in the number of road accidents in the city too.
Kamrup and Kamrup metro, the two districts over which Guwahati city is spread over, had reported a total of 24 major cases – 15 and nine respectively – during the two days of festivity.
While Kamrup reported the highest in the state, closely followed by Golaghat with 14 cases, the state as a whole reported 242 road accidents in which someone was at least injured.
Assam government had declared local holiday on November 5, the day after Diwali that was already a holiday.
