Dibrugarh, April 3: A heavy hailstorm lashed through upper Assam’s Dibrugarh on Sunday causing extensive damages. According to official sources, nearly 67 villages were affected in Dibrugarh district due to the hailstorm and accompanying strong winds.
Many big trees were uprooted and electric poles were damaged due to the heavy storm in Dibrugarh on Sunday evening.
Meanwhile, the Dibrugarh district administration has sent relief materials to the affected families.
“One person was injured at Chabua during the storm. He bore minor injuries and admitted at hospital. No causality reported so far from the district. We have sent 3000 tarpaulins for the affected families. The numbers of affected villages in the district may rise because we have received the preliminary report,” said an official of ASDMA.
He said, “Due to the heavy hailstorm, many houses in Moran were affected. Most of the roofs were damaged in the Moran areas. Many people have become homeless.”
In Dibrugarh town, many trees uprooted blocked roads and disrupted traffic movement. Electricity had also been snapped in many areas of the town due to the storm.
Recently, due to heavy hailstorm many houses were affected in Dibrugarh. Within a week, this was the second time where hailstorm has caused extensive damages in many areas of Dibrugarh.
