Heavy vehicles banned on EKH road due to safety concerns

SHILLONG, FEB 24: The District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills has banned heavy loaded vehicles exceeding nine tons from using a stretch of road in the district, citing safety concerns.

The order, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, applies to the Mawmaram-Nongthliew-Mawmih-Mawlyndep road, where overloaded vehicles have damaged the road and pose a risk to villagers and pedestrians.

Violators will face prosecution under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The ban is effective immediately and will remain in force until further notice.
