Must read

Guwahati, Sept 21: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday held talks regarding the Naga political issue with the NSCN(IM) leadership in the presence of Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio in Dimapur.

The interaction which was held a day after resumption of talks between the Centre and NSCN(IM) to find a solution to the vexed Naga political issue, was also confirmed by Neiba Kronu.

NSCN(IM) is holding talks with political leaders for the first time since it started the negotiations with the Centre in 1997.

“Adarniya PM Sri @narendramodi and Adarniya HM Sir @AmitShah are committed to ensure ever- lasting peace in the North East. At Dimapur today, we held discussion with NSCN(IM) representatives in presence of Nagaland HCM Sri @Neiphiu_Rio about ongoing peace talks with GoI,” Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted on Tuesday evening.

Sarma tweeted, “We are all keen that the ongoing Peace Talks fructify into concrete result soon. I also discussed the political scenario in Nagaland with HCM as well the upcoming Nagaland Assembly elections, and @NEDAIndia role in it.”

Himanta Biswa Sarma is the convenor of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), the Northeast version of the NDA, where major parties of the region are constituents.

Talks with ULFA-I

Anti-talk ULFA which is also known as ULFA (independent) has declared ceasefire responding to peace overtures of Assam government.

Sarma said, “Assam government had maintained communications with ULFA chief Paresh Baruah and now Union Home Minister has allowed me to hold dialogue if there is any scope directly.”

Naga leadership satisfied with Mishra as interlocutor

Former special director of the Intelligence Bureau, AK Mishra and the NSCN(IM) leadership led by Th Muivah met in Dimapur on Monday.

Its seems to be a proactive stand by Centre towards Naga political issue.

The Naga leadership has been happy after AK Mishra was appointed as interlocutor for Naga peace talk.

Recently, Nagaland governor R N Ravi was shifted to Tamil Nadu. He was an interlocutor of Naga peace talks. Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi has been given additional charge of Nagaland.

Ravi and NSCN-IM were at loggerheads on different issues including the interpretation of framework agreement of 2015. NSCN(IM) had earlier opposed Ravi when he inked an agreement with seven-member Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs). NSCN-IM had last year refused to hold discussion with Ravi and instead chose to have informal discussion with IB officials.
