MP murdered

Guwahati: Bangladesh on Wednesday said an MP of the ruling Awami League who was on a medical trip to India had been murdered, with police in Bengal reaching a Rajarhat apartment where he had apparently been seen in CCTV footage but failing to find the body.

SC refused to entertain Soren

Guwahati: The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to entertain former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren’s plea challenging his arrest under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) on the ground that he had “misled” the court.

Shah Rukh Khan hospitalised

Guwahati: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan on Wednesday admitted to a hospital in Ahmedabad after suffering from a heat stroke. Khan was in Ahmedabad on Tuesday to attend an Indian Premier League (IPL) match of his Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) team at the Narendra Modi stadium.

OBC certificates cancelled

Guwahati: The Calcuta High Court cancelled all Other Backward Classes (OBC) certificates issued in West Bengal since 2010. In a judgement, delivered by a Division Bench comprising justice Tapabrata Chakraborty and Rajasekhar Mantha, however, clarified that individuals who had already secured employment using these certificates would not be affected by this order.

UK to go polls on July 4

Guwahati: The United Kingdom will go to polls on July 4 to elect a new parliament, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced on May 22, possibly ending a 14-year run of Conservative government that spanned five Prime Ministers.
