Jowai, Sept 20: Hundreds of students who have recently passed their SSLC and HSSLC Examination and have applied for admissions to Class XI and BA 1st Semester are yet to get admitted into the government college and schools in West Jaiñtia Hills.
Taking cognizance of the issue, a meeting was held on Monday at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, West Jaiñtia Hills in the presence of the district Deputy Commissioner, Garod LSN Dykes, Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla and the Principals of the Kiang Nangbah Government College, Government Boys and Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Jowai along with the officials from the education department.
Following the meeting, Wailad informed that there are around 400 vacant seats in the 1st semester of the BA stream under the honours subjects like History, Philosophy and Economics but many students who are yet to get admissions did not opt for these subjects.
He also informed that they will approach the education department to increase the number of sections and to appoint teachers/lecturers on contractual basis to cater to the immediate needs of the additional sections of the college and schools.
He further stated that the main reason that the students have opted to seek admissions into these government schools and college is because of the COVID-19 pandemic which has affected the parents’ income, forcing them to send their children and wards to these government institutions.
Moreover, he assured that from his end he will take up the matter seriously with the government.
