ICAR Women’s Cell celebrates Women’s Day

Shillong, March 8: International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on March 8, with the annual event being recognised by the United Nations (UN). International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

The Women’s Cell of ICAR NEH marked the day today with colourful celebrations at the MS Swaminathan Hall. Dr K Puro, Senior Scientist Animal Health and I/c Chairperson Women’s Cell in her welcome address highlighted the role of women in the society and said that the female section of the society should raise their voice against any injustice.

The programme was attended by all the female staff of the institute.  In unison with the theme for the year 2021 “Choose To Challenge It indicates that a “challenged world is an alert world, and from challenge comes change”. This year, we can all choose to challenge everything that has been holding us back and become better allies. Women’s Cell celebrated the day by appreciating the efforts of “Women Leadership in Agriculture: entrepreneurship, Equity and Empowerment.

Few women farmers from the Meghalaya were awarded for their undying spirit and efforts in agriculture during the Covid 19 pandemic.  Mrs. Ioolang War, Assistant Director, Dept. of Social Welfare Govt. Of Meghalaya graced the occasion as the Chief Guest for the occasion. Addressing the gathering she highlighted the laws and the legal rights of women in the society. The day also witnessed a series of presentations on successful women’s farmers.
