IED at NPP Office: Arrested person’s identity revealed

Shillong, Oct 7: The identity of the person arrested by Meghalaya Police on Wednesday for his involvement in the recent planting of an IED bomb in front of the National People’s Party (NPP) office has been revealed by Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui.

The person has been identified as one Ksan Kharkongor of the Umphyrnai area, and is an active member of the proscribed militant outfit Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).

“Preliminary investigation has revealed he (Kharkongor) was involved in placing the bomb in that area (NPP office),” Rymbui said.

He said that the arrest was made based on inputs and credible evidence.

At the same time, Rymbui said nothing can be solved through confrontation but it is only by negotiation within the parameters of the Constitution of India.

Giving more details on the arrest, Assistant Inspector General of Police (A), GK Iangrai, said Kharkongor was apprehended from Shillong Civil Hospital for his involvement in the incident.

He said, in the course of investigation, the suspect has admitted to his role and also stated that he is a member of the HNLC.

Iangrai added that incriminating evidence has been seized from his possession and investigation of the case is in progress.
