Shillong, Sept 6: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong has launched its first-ever Integrated Program in Management (IPM) for nurturing future-ready leaders. The five-year program, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aims to blend liberal arts education with core management training, shaping leaders who embody Indian values with a global outlook.
The new program is structured to provide a broad foundation in critical thinking, communication, and socio-economic awareness in the first three years, before transitioning into the institute’s flagship Post Graduate Program in Management (PGP). Emphasizing sustainability, inclusivity, and ethics, the curriculum draws inspiration from timeless principles such as Dharma (righteousness), Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family), and Nishkama Karma (selfless action).

The admissions process was highly competitive. Out of 30,220 candidates who appeared for the IPMAT, 1,588 applied to IIM Shillong. After rigorous screening, only 46 students were selected for the inaugural cohort. The batch reflects wide diversity, with representation from 19 states, a near 70:30 male-to-female ratio, and a mix of Arts (46%), Commerce (30%), and Science (24%) backgrounds.
The commencement ceremony was held on September 6 at the IIM Shillong Auditorium. The event featured the Lighting of the Lamp, batch presentation, and addresses from key dignitaries.

Delivering the keynote, Dr. Mahesh Y. Reddy, Chairman of the Infrastructure Industry & Logistics Federation of India, praised IIM Shillong’s integrated approach to education and urged students to embrace multidisciplinary learning to drive innovation and entrepreneurship in India’s $5 trillion economy vision.
Board of Governors member Nitin Sharma encouraged students to embody values of courage, humility, and service, reminding them that leadership must be practiced daily. Prof. Naliniprava Tripathy, Director (In-Charge), highlighted the pioneering nature of the IPM and its role in preparing students to become globally competitive yet value-driven leaders.
The ceremony also included a student pledge, a vote of thanks, and a panel discussion on “Going from 0 ➡️ 1: Turning Ideas into Sustainable Business,” featuring industry leaders from banking, technology, and entrepreneurship. Panelists shared insights on building scalable ventures grounded in sustainability.
