Dibrugarh, July 13: Contrary to ULFA–I’s post-strike claims following an alleged Indian Army aerial strike—reportedly killing a senior commander and injuring 19 cadres along the India–Myanmar border—official sources including the security forces, the Indian Army, and senior government agencies have remained silent and denied these allegations.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma rejected ULFA–I’s version outright, clarifying that the Assam Police is not involved and stating that no such operation occurred on Assam soil.
ULFA–I (United Liberation Front of Assam–Independent) asserted that a senior commander, Lieutenant General Nayan Asom—honorary president of ULFA–I’s lower council—was killed, and at least 19 others were injured in what it described as a suspected Indian military aerial assault along the India–Myanmar border.
According to intelligence sources, three separate divisions of the Indian Army’s elite Special Forces executed the operation targeting ULFA camps in Myanmar. Planning began about a month and a half ago. Three UAVs were deployed over the camps for the previous four days to gather imagery and video footage,” the sources revealed.
“Simultaneous drone strikes hit four ULFA camps. In addition to eliminating senior leaders, the raid destroyed radio communications, ammunition depots, and logistical supplies,” they added.
“The occupying forces have crossed all limits of humanity by launching a missile at the funeral of Lt. J. Nayan Assam, Hon’ble President of the Lower Council of the United Liberation Front of Assam [Independent] Brigadier Ganesh Assam and Colonel Pradeep Assam were killed and several other officers and members and civilians were injured in this brutal and inhuman attack by the Veronia forces The occupying forces continue to carry out fighter jets in certain areas. I would like to inform the indigenous people of Assam that we are determined to take revenge on this barbaric attack by the colonial state.” Ulfa said in its press statement.
Following Operation Bajrang and Rhino, this marks one of the most significant military operations directed against ULFA by the Indian Army.
