Tura, Dec 3: The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was observed on Wednesday at the Dalu C&RD Block MFC, organised by the District Social Welfare Office in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), West Garo Hills.
A health check-up camp was conducted by Dr. Naomi Sangma and staff from Dalu CHC, who also briefed participants on rural health and hygiene.
Sujata Das, Manager of the District Resource Centre for Disability Affairs, explained the process of obtaining a Unique Disability ID (UDID).

Addressing the gathering, John Cronin Ch. Sangma, District Legal Aid Defence Counsel, urged persons with disabilities and their families to recognise their strengths and avail free legal aid services provided by the DLSA. He elaborated on key provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPWD) Act, 2016, which safeguards educational, social, economic, cultural and political rights.
Chief Guest Saintfield Ch. Sangma, SDO of Dalu Civil Sub-Division, called for greater awareness and support for the dignity and rights of persons with disabilities. He encouraged eligible beneficiaries to enrol in the Chief Minister’s Social Assistance Scheme for PWDs.
The event concluded with the distribution of prizes by the Chief Guest, followed by a vote of thanks delivered by Stern H.B. Marak, Supervisor, District Social Welfare Office, Tura.
