Shillong, June 29: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) has dismissed as “false” allegations that it was collecting ₹1,000 from each truck owner for a felicitation programme for three Meghalaya ministers, asserting that no such collection was ever planned or carried out.
The clarification came after a Shillong-based newspaper published a report alleging that truck owners were being asked to contribute ₹1,000 each for the July 1 programme at the State Library.
Rejecting the claim, the JAC said it had “neither planned nor prepared any initiative to collect money in such a manner” and had “not forced nor will it force the truck owners to pay any money.”

The JAC said the entire cost of the felicitation programme would be met from the associations’ own funds and not through contributions or collections from members or truck owners.
Describing the allegation as a malicious attempt to tarnish the reputation of the associations, the JAC urged members and truck owners not to pay heed to what it termed as rumours, gossip and baseless allegations.
