Guwahati, Dec 26: The journalist fraternity of the Northeast is mourning the sudden demise of Ezrela Dalidia Fanai (41) of Mizoram, who was found dead in her apartment in Aizawl on Thursday morning.
Dalidia was a reporter with Doordarshan Kendra Aizawl and a contributor to All India Radio News. Over the years, she built a distinguished career reporting on the Northeast for national audiences. She had also worked with media organisations including India Today, NDTV, and several regional outlets.
Tributes poured in from colleagues and friends across the country. Journalist Chandrani Sinha wrote in a Facebook post:
“Death came too soon for you and left silently in rooms and spaces where people remembered you for your laughter. You carried your grief so well that we never knew how heavy it was. You are gone, but your presence will linger—in memories, unanswered questions, and a grief that will learn to breathe with time. Till then, goodbye my friend Ezrela Dalidia Fanai. Rest in peace.”
Journalist Biswa Kalyan Purkayastha wrote, “Ezrela Dalidia Fanai, a bright young journalist from Aizawl, has passed away. We’ll miss you, dear.”
Members of the journalist fraternity across the Northeast expressed deep shock and condoled her untimely passing.
Dalidia had been living with her mother and her pet dog, both of whom had passed away recently. She had no immediate family members at the time of her death. Sources said she had been going through a difficult period following these personal losses.
According to the police, when relatives failed to reach her over the phone on Thursday (December 25) morning, they, along with locals, broke open the door and found her lying dead on the floor.
Police said an investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of death. “At this stage, we cannot say anything as the investigation is still at a preliminary stage,” an official said.
