Conrad pays tribute to late Standlington D Khongwir, calls it personal loss for Mawlai and Meghalaya

Shillong, Nov 21: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Tuesday paid his last respects to Former Deputy Chief Minister, Standlington D Khongwir at his residence near Weiking Field in Mawlai..

Khongwir breathed his last on Tuesday at NEIGRIMHS Hospital at the age of 90 after  prolonged illness.

Expressing his sorrow over the demise of Late SD Khongwir, the Chief Minister mentioned that the state recognizes Late Khongwir as a senior figure who made significant contributions to his constituency and the state as a whole.

“He has been known as a person who are being loved by the masses, it was reflected in the kind of support he continued even when he was no longer the MLA, even then the support, the love from the people simply reflected what kind of leader he was,” CM Conrad remarked while paying respects at the late former Deputy CM’s residence at Mawlai.

Reflecting on his personal interactions and the knowledge gained from Late SD Khongwir, CM Conrad shared, “I have had the opportunity to interact, meet and work with him in the past. Even when he was the Rangbah Shnong we have had couple meetings . So, I really have a lot of chance to learn from him, to interact and discuss with him in so many things”, he added.

Taking to X, CM wrote, “Paid my respects to Former Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Standlington D Khongwir at his residence. For the people of the state and especially the constituents of Mawlai, the demise of Parit Standling is a personal loss to the community.”

CM also remembered his contribution as a Rangbah Shnong for 55 long years and his work for the development of Mawlai as the President of the Mawlai Town Dorbar.

“Parit served wholeheartedly as the Rangbah Shnong for 55 long years, worked for the development of Mawlai as the President of the Mawlai Town Dorbar and was a leader most looked up to. Extend my deepest condolences to his family and his beloved people of Mawlai. May each of us follow in his footsteps towards strengthening our community through service. May his soul rest in peace,” he added.
