Kohima, July 16: The Kohima Village Council (KVC) has strongly refuted allegations that Kohima Village supplied 30 AK-47 rifles to Kuki militants, describing the claim as “false, baseless and without any evidence.”
The clarification comes after Rev. A. Puni Mao allegedly claimed during a meeting at a hotel in Chümoukedima on June 25 that Kohima Village had provided the assault rifles to Kuki militants to fight Nagas in Manipur.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the KVC said the allegation was serious, capable of damaging the village’s reputation and creating division among Naga communities at a sensitive time.

Following the remarks, the Council summoned Rev. Mao to a meeting at the Kohima Village Council Hall on July 9, where he was asked to substantiate his claim before village elders, council members and representatives of frontal organisations.
According to the KVC, Rev. Mao admitted during the meeting that he had made the allegation without proper deliberation or supporting evidence. The Council said he acknowledged his mistake, sought forgiveness and tendered a public apology to Kohima Village.
The village body said the matter was subsequently settled amicably between the two sides.
The KVC said it had issued the clarification to place the facts on record and dispel what it described as an unfounded allegation that could undermine communal harmony and tarnish the image of Kohima Village.
