Shillong, July 28: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) West Jaintia Hills District Unit has requested the district Superintendent of Police to ensure regular patrolling security in the Lapangap area.
The request comes after residents and farmers in the area have faced repeated obstructions, threats, and disruptions from individuals from the Karbi community since June 25.
In a letter to the SP, president of the union Laitphar Syngkrem said, “This ongoing harassment has created fear and insecurity among the farmers, making it extremely difficult for them to carry out their cultivation work peacefully and safely.”
“In light of the above, we earnestly request your esteemed office to kindly deploy regular patrolling security in the Lapangap area to ensure the safety of the farmers and prevent any further disturbances,” he added.
According to him, a visible police presence will not only restore the confidence of the farmers but also help maintain peace and harmony in the area.
