Dibrugarh, June 15: In one of the biggest anti-narcotics operations in recent months, Dibrugarh Police busted a suspected drug trafficking network operating from abandoned railway quarters near Dibrugarh Town Railway Station, arresting 10 people and seizing suspected heroin, cash, vehicles and gold ornaments.
The operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs about drug-related activities in Harijan Colony, located opposite the railway station. Multiple police teams carried out coordinated raids at several locations believed to be linked to the network.
During the searches, police recovered 79.55 grams of suspected heroin concealed in eight containers. Investigators also seized a mobile phone and SIM card that are expected to provide crucial leads into the network’s operations and supply chain.
A large quantity of syringes allegedly used in the drug trade was also recovered, including 300 insulin syringes packed in multiple packets.
The operation yielded substantial financial recoveries as well. Police seized ₹4.92 lakh in cash, suspected to be proceeds from narcotics trafficking. Four vehicles — a Renault Kwid, Toyota Glanza, NTORQ scooter and Jupiter scooter — were also confiscated.
In addition, officers recovered gold ornaments and other valuables believed to have been acquired through the proceeds of the illegal trade. The seizure included gold earrings, a gold chain, a gold ring and a silver coin.

Police said the arrests have exposed a wider network, with several more suspects coming under the scanner during the investigation. Efforts are underway to trace others allegedly linked to the operation, including a suspected kingpin who is reported to have escaped during the crackdown.
“We have arrested 10 individuals in connection with the drug trade. We have seized suspected heroin and other items. More than ₹4 lakh in cash was recovered from their possession. Based on inputs received over the past several days, we conducted a surprise raid which led to these arrests,” said Dibrugarh Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ) Nayan Moni Baruah.
He said all the accused have been booked under the NDPS Act and further arrests and recoveries are expected as the investigation progresses.
The crackdown is being viewed as a significant blow to drug trafficking operations in Upper Assam, with investigators now working to identify the source of the narcotics, track financial transactions and unravel the wider distribution network.
