Manipur CM says Govt trying to secure release of abducted Meitei youth unconditionally

Imphal, Sept 30: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Monday said massive police operations have been launched in Kangpokpi districts led by Manipur police to search for the two abducted youth, whose videos have gone viral.

Singh said police has been asked to secure the release of two Meitei youth who were kidnapped by armed militants in ethnic-violence hit Manipur’s Kangpokpi.

“It is a very unfortunate incident. Of the three youth, one was released while the two others are still in the hands of militants. The Centre and the state government are in touch to ensure the safe release of the two youth,” said Singh.

The two missing individuals have been identified as Oinam Thoithoi from Thoubal Keishangthem Awang Leikai and Thokchom Thoithoiba from Thoubal Khekman Wangmataba Mayai Leikai.

“They have made some demands. But the government is trying to release the two individuals unconditionally,” Singh said.

According to reports, three friends had gone for a Staff Selection Commission General Duty recruitment and went for a small walk at around 3.00 om on Friday when they were abducted by armed men.

“Out of the three N Johnson Singh was rescued by the police and reunited with his family. However, the other two men remain missing,” said a police source.

Meanwhile, security forces have launched a massive search operation against the militants.
