Imphal, July 6: In a shocking incident, a woman was shot dead by unidentified miscreants outside a school in Manipur.

According to reports, the incident is said to have occurred on Thursday morning in Imphal West District.

The middle-aged woman was shot outside Shishu Niketan School. Officials said armed miscreants opened fire on the woman when she came to Sishu Niketan School at Mayaikoibi to drop her child.

Eyewitness said the armed miscreants opened fire on the woman after her child entered the school complex.

Police and forensic teams immediately rushed to the area and recovered the body from the spot in the outskirts of Imphal city.

Following this incident, tension has erupted in the state.

However, the identity and community of the victim is yet to be identified, said police sources.

This fresh incident comes a day after schools in Manipur reopened for classes 1-8 after almost two months of communal clash in the state.

The decision to open the school in the violence hit state was announced by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Wednesday. A total of 4,521 schools for classes 1 to 8 reopened on Wednesday.
