Shillong, June 20: A bi-lingual symposium on Garo Cultural Heritage was organised by INTACH Meghalaya Chapter and the Department of English, NEHU Tura Campus in collaboration with PRIME Meghalaya on Tuesday.

The objective of the Symposium was dissemination of correct and authentic information by Resource Persons on basic elements of Garo Culture. The talks centred around primary aspects of the culture of the Garos such as Matriliny, Nokmaship, Nokpante and Wangala.

The symposium was organised for the benefit of social media influencers, entrepreneurs, artists and other cultural representatives. Around 60+ interested individuals registered online for the programme with several on-spot registrations.

The speakers were Dr Ramona M Sangma, Co-convenor, INTACH Meghalaya Chapter & Associate Professor, Dept of English, NEHU Tura Campus who gave an Introduction to Garo Oral Culture; Prof Dwijen Sharma, Department Head, Dept. of English, NEHU Tura Campus who highlighted connection of the Department of English with INTACH Meghalaya Chapter; Mr Hilbirth A Sangma, Incubation Associate, PRIME Meghalaya, who gave a brief introduction of PRIME Meghalaya; Dr Colnat B Marak, Asstt. Lecturer, Dept of Garo, Don Bosco College, Tura, who spoke on the institution of the Nokpante and the Wangala festival; Dr Dokatchi Ch Marak, Associate Professor, Dept of Garo, NEHU Tura Campus, who spoke on Matriliny and Dr Crystal Cornelius Marak who spoke on the Institution of Nokmaship. The topics covered in this symposium were aimed at providing basic information to stakeholders involved with culture in various ways
