Shillong, Sept 11: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday said that he would examine the matter of calling the leaders of Sur Ki Nong Mawlai for talks as the organization has been relentless with its protests across the city and in different forms.
“We will examine the matter,” Sangma told reporters while reacting to a query if the government would call the protesters for talks on the issue.
Several knives were dumped at the gate of the Main Secretariat by leaders of the Sur Ki Nong Mawlai as part of the knife surrender protest held amid tight security on Friday, which also was the first day of the Assembly’s Autumn Session.
Demand of Sur Ki Nong Mawlai
The Sur Ki Nong Mawlai has been demanding the immediate suspension of the top police officials including the Director General of Police R Chandranathan to ensure free and fair investigation into the alleged fake encounter of former HNLC general secretary Cherishterfield Thangkhiew on August 13, 2021.
On the demand of the organization, Sangma said the law will take its own course.

Government’s stand
Meghalaya CM also reminded that the government has already made its stand very clear on the demand of the people.
“My stand is very clear, I have made a statement two days back that the judicial inquiry is on and until the judicial inquiry is not completed there is no question of taking any action because it will be unfair, the judicial inquiry will bring out the facts. When the facts come out then we will take decision,” Sangma said.
