Meghalaya constitutes independent inquiry into SNP rice scam, report to be submitted within 3 months

Shillong, Aug 4: Meghalaya government has constituted an independent inquiry to inquire into the matter of rice allotted to Continental Milkcose (India) Ltd. for the Supplementary Nutrition Program (SNP) found in a private godown in Boko, Assam and seized by Assam Police. The committee has been given three months to submit its final report from the date of issue of the notification.

Social Welfare Minister, Kyrmen Shylla informed that a notification has already been issued on July 29 by Chief Secretary relating to this.

The independent inquiry will be headed by Justice (Retired) Mool Chand Garg, Madhya Pradesh High Court.

The Terms of References for the Committee will also be to inquire into the quality of fortified Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP) food items being supplied to the children, pregnant and lactating women under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme and whether any testing is done and whether it is as per the norms.

The Committee will also look into whether the quantity of food reaching the beneficiaries is as per norms.

Meanwhile, any further interim reports and recommendations can also be submitted to the Government of Meghalaya from time to time prior to the finalization of the report.
