Must read

Shillong, Aug 23: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday said the State government is waiting for a positive response from the Centre with regards to the medical students from Meghalaya, who are affected due to the situation in Manipur.

Sangma told reporters that the State government had already written to the Union Health Minister that the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) or any other central medical institutes may be put as an alternative for such medical students.

“The Union minister gave us a very positive response that day saying not only myself but many other people have been speaking about it and they have been discussing among the cabinet colleagues at the central government level about this issue and they all feel for it and they are all for it but a formal decision has not been taken yet,” he said.

“We met the agriculture minister also and he immediately acted on it. I expect that we will get a positive response for the medical students also but as I said the ball is in the Central government’s court but we are putting our continuous pressure so that the students don’t lose out,” Sangma added.

The chief minister said that there is a bit of a concern of security and of course Centre and State government are taking every step for the students’ safety and plus they will be within the campus.

“Of course, all those steps are being taken but I guess it is not a very easy decision so therefore, parents especially are very concerned,” he stated.
