SHILLONG, FEB 22: The state government is awaiting the report of the working group committee in regards to the proposed amendments to the Scheduled Tribes list in Presidential Order 1950.
“The government vide notification dated December 13, 2024 constituted the working group committee to work out on the list of Scheduled Tribes in Meghalaya for Amendment of Part-XI of the Scheduled of the Presidential order 1950 pertaining to the state of Meghalaya called as the ‘Constitution Scheduled Tribes order 1950” comprising of the chairperson, member secretary and eight members,” Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said in a reply tabled during the current Assembly’s budget session.
The committee has held three meetings so far – on February 5, May 15, and August 14, 2025.
On the report’s status, Sangma said the matter is under process, with no tentative release date confirmed.
