Meghalaya govt moves SC to cancel Sonam Raghuvanshi’s bail

Must read

SHILLONG, JUL 2: The Meghalaya government has moved the Supreme Court to cancel the bail granted to Sonam Raghuvanshi, who is the prime accused of murdering her husband, Indore-based businessman (L) Raja Raghuvanshi, in 2025.

Appearing for the State, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta pressed for an early listing of the matter. The apex court assured that the plea would be heard at the earliest.

In his submissions, Mehta argued that the trial court had granted Sonam bail merely because the arresting authorities allegedly failed to fully convey the reasons for her detention.

He told the Supreme Court that this decision hinged on a “minor typographical error” in citing the relevant legal provision, which, he said, was insufficient ground for bail.

Warning of flight risk, Mehta submitted that Sonam Raghuvanshi could abscond if she remains out on bail and pressed for immediate judicial intervention.
