Shillong, Nov 26: The Airport Authority of India (AAI) is in the process of conducting the technical evaluation for the Shillong Airport expansion project.
This was informed Deputy Chief Minister incharge Transport Sniawbhalang Dhar after chairing a meeting on Tuesday.
“Today we had a meeting. Now, the technical evaluation is still on. After the technical evaluation by the AAI is done, they will allot the work,” he told reporters.

According to him, the tender is being floated by the AAI and not the state.
“They informed us that from the day they issue work order, they will give time 18 months from complete of extension of runway,” he added.
Regarding the Baljek Airport, Dhar said, “…we are waiting for AAI to come for joint inspection to finalise the land (to ensure the project) will be in the right direction.”
On the issue of influx, Dhar stressed the government’s relentless efforts to curb illegal migration.
“The government is always on the job to prevent all this influx and illegal migrants and even today we are still on and yes of course even the Labour and Tourism department use to check in Umling area,” he said.

He informed that chief minister Conrad K Sangma has been following up with the Centre on the demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) and Meghalaya Residents, Safety and Security Act (MRSSA).
“Both CM and Home Minister also met Governor last month (on the issue). So, we are pushing (for implementation of effective mechanisms to check influx into the state),” he added.
