Meghalaya HC gives NHAI time for status report as CBI arrests key official in contempt case

Must read

Shillong, Jul 7: The Meghalaya High Court on Monday gave NHAI seven days to submit a status report in connection with a land acquisition petition, even as the court was told that an NHAI officer facing contempt proceedings has been taken into custody by the CBI.

The order was passed by the division bench of Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice W. Diengdoh afterhearing the case Kynjaimon Amse (deceased) vs NHAI & Others.

NHAI counsel S Sengupta requested one week to file an affidavit updating the Court on the matter.

Allowing the plea, the bench directed that the report be filed in the Registry ahead of the next hearing and that advance copies be given to all parties.

The Court also noted the status of Anand Singh Chauhan, against whom a contempt notice was issued on March 20, 2026.

Sengupta informed the bench that Chauhan was arrested by the CBI on July 1, 2026, and that he had earlier been transferred from PIU-Shillong to PIU-Hanuman Ghat.

“Whenever he is released, he will appear before this Court,” Sengupta submitted.

The case will be taken up again on July 13, 2026.
