Young shooter Giting Rani shines as North Garo Hills bags eight medals at state championship

Shillong, July 7: Young pistol shooter Giting Rani M. Momin stole the limelight for North Garo Hills after winning two medals at the 11th Meghalaya State Shooting Championship, helping the district register an impressive eight-medal haul at the state-level competition.

Competing in the Youth and Junior categories, Giting displayed remarkable composure and accuracy to clinch one silver and one bronze medal in the 10M Pistol event.

Her performance has marked her as one of the most promising young shooters from North Garo Hills.

The district’s success was further bolstered by Anthony D. Marak, who emerged as one of the top performers by winning gold in the 50 Metre Free Pistol (Men) and silver in the 25 Metre Standard Pistol (Men).

Rakku D. Momin also enjoyed a successful championship, claiming gold in the 10M Mixed Team Pistol (NR) and bronze in the 10 Metre Pistol (Men) (NR), while Jerash K. Marak added silver in the 50 Metre Rifle Prone (Men) and bronze in the 10M Men’s Rifle (MQS).

The combined efforts of the four shooters earned North Garo Hills eight medals at the championship held from June 30 to July 5, highlighting the district’s growing strength in shooting sports.

Congratulating the medal winners, Shooting Association of North Garo Hills (SANGH) President Davis C.K. Sangma said the achievements reflected the athletes’ dedication, discipline and perseverance.

He noted that the emergence of young talents like Giting Rani, alongside the consistent performances of senior shooters, bodes well for the future of the sport in North Garo Hills. He also expressed confidence that, with continued support and training, the shooters would continue to excel at national and international competitions.
