SHILLONG, FEB 19: The Meghalaya High Court will conduct a thorough examination of the state government’s status report on the Mynsngat-Thangsko coal mine explosion, which claimed over 33 lives, before issuing further directives.
“A cursory glance shows that the Report is exhaustive and requires a minute examination
by this Court, before any further necessary and effective orders are passed, thereon,” division bench comprising Justice HS Thangkhiew and Justice W Diengdoh said in its order passed on Thursday.

The court listed the PIL for further hearing on February 24 and directed both the current Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills, Pankaj Rasgania, and his predecessor Vikash Kumar to appear in person.
“It is further directed that the Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills District along with Mr. Vikash Kumar, the former Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills District to remain present, on the next date of hearing.”
