Shillong, June 9: Meghalaya Police have cracked the murder case of Indore tourist Raja Raghuvanshi, who was killed during his honeymoon in the state.
The investigation led to the arrest of his wife, Sonam, and four others, including 21-year-old Raj Kushwaha, with whom Sonam is suspected to have had a relationship.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma congratulated the Meghalaya Police on their swift and thorough investigation, which led to the arrests.
He told media that the case was cracked under difficult circumstances and credited the police for finding solid evidence linking the accused to the crime.
The police investigation revealed that Sonam hired assailants to kill her husband. The operation was carried out with the support of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh police, as well as the Intelligence Bureau.
The agencies were convinced by the evidence presented by the Meghalaya Police and subsequently assisted in the arrests.
The Chief Minister informed that the state will continue to prioritize tourist safety and implement better safety measures. This includes potentially installing more CCTVs and training local guides with advanced technology.
Apology to the People of Meghalaya
The Chief Minister also called upon individuals and media houses that blamed the state government and police without evidence to apologize for painting Meghalaya in a bad light.
He informed that the state’s reputation as a tourist-friendly destination remains intact, and efforts will be made to further improve safety.
