Shillong, Apr 1: In a significant recognition of its service and professionalism, Meghalaya Police has been awarded the prestigious President of India’s Police Colour by the Ministry of Home Affairs, marking one of the highest honours for a police force in the country.
The award acknowledges the force’s sustained dedication, courage, and integrity in maintaining law and order, combating crime, and addressing militancy-related challenges across the state. The President’s Police Colour is a symbol of national recognition for exceptional service rendered over the years.
The announcement was made through an official statement issued by the Office of the Director General of Police, Meghalaya, and signed by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (A), Shillong.
Meghalaya Police has also been credited for its strides in gender inclusion, along with earning numerous gallantry and distinguished service medals. Its role in disaster management—particularly in conducting prompt search and rescue operations during natural calamities—has further strengthened its reputation as a responsive and people-centric force.
In line with evolving security challenges, the force has expanded its institutional capacity through specialised units such as the Cyber Crime branch and Anti-Terror Squad.
Director General Police Meghalaya has termed the honour a matter of pride not just for the force but for the entire state, while stressing that it brings added responsibility to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and public service.
The police leadership also expressed gratitude to the government and the people of Meghalaya for their continued support, noting that public cooperation remains crucial in maintaining peace and security.
