Tura, July 25: A five-day workshop focused on the “Holistic Progress Card at Secondary Stage” and “Standardization of Question Paper Template” successfully concluded at MBOSE, Tura. The program, which began on July 21, brought together 32 secondary school teachers and master trainers from across Meghalaya.
Organized by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) in collaboration with PARAKH, NCERT, New Delhi, the workshop aimed to revolutionize assessment methods for the holistic development of students. Its core objective was to equip teachers with skills to create comprehensive, standardized question papers.

These new assessments move beyond traditional, purely academic evaluations by considering multiple domains of student development, including knowledge, application, analysis, and creation.
The training emphasized using the “Holistic Progress Card” as a flexible tool to understand individual student needs, capture co-scholastic skills, and identify both strengths and weaknesses. This comprehensive approach seeks to provide a more rounded evaluation, ultimately aiming to reduce student dropout rates and promote overall student growth.
Speaking with Hub News, Dr. J. A. Marak, Chief Academic Officer, MBOSE, highlighted the workshop’s impact. “This workshop, particularly with regard to the holistic progress card, enables us to effectively assess the efficiency and competency level of children. We will then be able to identify their weaknesses and strengths, which will certainly help curtail the problem of dropouts in the near future,” he stated.
Participants praised the valuable insights gained, anticipating significant enhancements to assessment practices and the fostering of a more equitable and student-centered examination system in Meghalaya.
Dhananjoy Chakraborty, a teacher at Laitumkhrah Bengali H.S. School in Shillong, told Hub News, “Meghalaya’s education system is in a transition period. At this moment, this sort of training is very important for the ongoing development of students and a holistic approach towards the academic pattern. We want to make our students on par with the national level.”
Officials underscored the workshop as a crucial step in strengthening the state’s educational landscape through more effective and holistic assessment.
The valedictory program, held on Thursday, also saw the presence of T. R. Laloo, Director Accreditation & Controller of Examinations, MBOSE, and R. R. Marak, MCS, Executive Chairman, MBOSE, along with the resource persons from NCERT.
