Shillong, Sept 16: The Meghalaya State Skill Development Society, Department of Labour, Employment and Skill, in collaboration with the Japan International Corporation of Welfare Services, held the Shigoto seminar at the Bharat Scouts and Guides Auditorium, in Shillong on Tuesday.
The tie-up with the Japan-based company is set to boost the State government’s overseas employment programmes.
The programme gave insights into job availability in Japan, such as caregiving and other sectors. The government has invited nursing colleges.
Sharing his insights, Jagdish Chelani, Executive Director, MSSDS, said, that the seminar is a platform to provide the participants, an insight into the Kaigo Market in Japan.
“While you learn about the opportunities that Japan has to offer, you should also look forward to the interaction that you will be able to have with the delegates, learn not just about the country but the people. The kind of work culture that they have has made Japan what it is today,” he said.
Encouraging young minds present at the programme, he added, “We hope that we give you an opportunity to prepare yourselves and come back whenever you wish to. Be inquisitive. If you have any questions, please ask.”
Giving his introduction to JICWELS, Krishnan Narayanan, CEO, NIHON Edutech Pvt. Ltd., said, “JICWELS is an organization which is supporting people who are care workers. As part of their objective, they are here to explain how Indians from the North Eastern region have gone to Japan and what their experience is. It gives you a bit of an insight into what it is like- the work, the life, the enjoyment, and the benefits that are in store for all of you. In the end, we will be having questions and answers, and we would like to answer as many questions as possible.”
He added, “There are a variety of trades and not just caregiving, where there are exams for skilled workers happening in India.” He said there are a number of opportunities available in construction, manufacturing, and hospitality.
Hiroya Yaguchi, Director, JICWELS, introduced the participants to ‘Kaigo’ or caregiving, which is all about taking care of senior persons in Japan.
He said, “Our mission is to support nursing care workers overseas; we also promote nursing care in Japan. The aging society is a crucial issue, and we need nursing care workers. Japan is an aging society, which has a declining birthrate. However, due to the aging population and declining birthrate, Japan does not have enough Japanese care workers alone. It is estimated that 250,000 care workers will be needed by 2026, so this is why Japan is seeking nursing care workers from overseas. Kaigo is positioned as a very high-skilled, specialized profession.”
He added, “But for those of you who are not interested in Kaigo, there are other opportunities for accommodation and hotel workers.”
There was a question-and-answer session where interested participants interacted with the experts, ensuring that doubts were clarified.
Jagdish Chelani, Executive Director, MSSDS Marsarsuk Tariang, Administrative Officer, MSSDS were present during the programme.
