Shillong, July 7: Meghalaya Assembly Speaker and UDP president, Metbah Lyngdoh has assured to pursue the demand for upgradation of the Sohra civil sub division into a district level, which was the dream of late Dr. Donkupar Roy.
Addressing media persons on Tuesday, Lyngdoh said the demand for Sohra as a new district was part of the discussion held with the state government when late Dr Donkupar Roy was still alive. He recalled that it was also agreed that Sohra deserved to be upgraded to a new district.
He said he will find out from the Chief Minister about the problems and the delay in Sohra’s upgradation. “Though he did mention about some geographical problems; what was that exactly I don’t know,” he said.
Lyngdoh is the MLA from Mairang which has been announced to be upgraded into a district from a civil sub division before August 15 this year.
He, however, added that the Chief Minister has already constituted a committee headed by the Chief Secretary to look after creation of new districts and new civil sub divisions in the state.
