MGNREGA implementation on track across Meghalaya: Minister Mondal

Must read

Shillong, July 4: Community and Rural Development Minister A.T. Mondal on Thursday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the effective implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), stating that the flagship rural employment programme is progressing well across Meghalaya.

Speaking to the press, Mondal highlighted that MGNREGA has reached nearly every village in the state, offering employment opportunities to thousands. “It’s one of the largest schemes, running in almost every village. The scale itself is a testament to its success,” he said.

While acknowledging that isolated complaints have surfaced in some areas, the minister dismissed suggestions of widespread failure. “There may be allegations in some pockets, but that doesn’t mean the scheme has failed. Overall, implementation is good,” he asserted.

To ensure transparency and accountability, the government has introduced regular monitoring, including video documentation of ongoing works. “We are constantly monitoring implementation through various means to ensure everything is as per the guidelines,” he added.

Mondal assured that the government treats every complaint with seriousness. “Whenever issues arise, we conduct proper inquiries. We don’t take such matters lightly,” he said, adding that corrective actions are taken wherever necessary.
