Mizoram Stone Quarry collapse: 8 bodies found, 12 remain missing

Aizawl, Nov 15: Search and Rescue teams were able to find 8 bodies on Tuesday morning from the stone quarry of ABCI Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd at Maudarh, Hnahthial district of Mizoram, which had collapsed on Monday afternoon, trapping around 15 miners.

Officials said the 8 bodies were found around 8 AM on Tuesday, however 3 are only body parts whose identification was yet to be done.

12 workers are still said to be missing in the quarry.

The incident happened on November 14, 2022 at around 2:40 PM at the Stone Quarry of ABCI Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. at Maudarh Village, Hnahthial District. 5 excavators, 1 stone crusher and 1 drilling machine were completely buried in the debris along with 10 to 15 workers.

Deputy Commissioner of Hnahthial District said two Executive Magistrates, Dr. Lalramdintluanga, SDC, and Betty Lalrinfeli, SDC, rushed to the site along with the medical team, an ambulance and a disaster vehicle with other equipments as soon as they got information about the caving-in of the quarry.

Rescue efforts are still going on. The area of the landslide is approximately 5000 Sqm.
