The visit comes alongside the BJP’s renewed focus on the tea sector in its election messaging. A key highlight is the party’s promise to raise daily wages of tea garden workers to ₹500 in a phased manner, alongside broader welfare measures.
According to the party’s commitments, the focus areas include land pattas for eligible tea garden families, housing support under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, ₹75,000 assistance for house repair for patta beneficiaries, formation of a Tea Tribes Wage Reform Expert Committee, i0mplementation of welfare schemes like Cha Shramik Protsahan Yojana, support for small tea growers and stabilisation of bought leaf prices and promotion of orthodox and specialty teas for global markets.
The outreach at Manohari Tea Estate underscores the political importance of Assam’s tea tribe voters, a decisive demographic in several constituencies.
