TURA, May 23: The Mrong Mahari Association (MMA), Tura, on Saturday felicitated outstanding achievers of the 2026 board examinations at a programme held at the Working Women’s Hostel in Tura.

The event was attended by community members, students, parents and well-wishers, with Rangsakhona MLA Subir M. Marak attending as the chief guest. Rev. Peter Jose M. Marak, WBC, Assistant Director of Youth & Sports Affairs Department Saljagring M. Marak, and MMA vice-president Dabo M. Marak were also present.

The association honoured two achievers from the community — Adiel’Anana M. Marak, the ICSE topper in Tura with 95.2 per cent marks, and Dechro M. Marak, who secured Rank 1 in the Meghalaya MBOSE HSSLC examinations with 94.4 per cent.

Addressing the gathering, Subir M. Marak congratulated the toppers and urged students to dream big and remain focused in life. He said success in any field, including education, sports or music, requires ambition, imagination and a clear goal.

He further encouraged students to believe in themselves and work hard towards achieving their aspirations, describing the toppers as role models for the younger generation.

During the programme, the organisers presented mementoes and tokens of appreciation to the toppers, their parents and relatives. In a surprise announcement, the MLA declared a cash award of Rs 50,000 each for both toppers, drawing applause from the audience.

Speaking at the event, Dechro M. Marak thanked God, teachers and parents for the success achieved in the examinations. The topper also expressed gratitude to the organisers and the chief guest for recognising the students’ efforts.

Dechro’s mother, Dimse M. Marak, thanked the association for organising the felicitation programme and said such initiatives motivate students to strive for academic excellence in an increasingly competitive environment.

MMA member Nengse M. Marak said the achievers had brought laurels not only to the clan but also to the wider community by excelling in the ICSE and MBOSE examinations.

The programme concluded with group songs performed by young and elderly women, adding a cultural touch to the celebration.
