Shillong, Nov 28: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today said that the allegation made by leader of opposition Mukul Sangma with regard to SS Netcom Pvt Ltd reflects ‘desperation’ on the part of opposition, who seems to have run out of issues related to governance and is making personal attack.

Dr. Mukul had made the allegation that SS Netcom had not followed due diligence and had allowed a company to operate a call centre, which had duped people with fake calls and were involved in criminal activities.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma clarified the matter saying that SS Netcom, which belongs to his family, had only rented out the premises to that company, as they had all necessary clearance and NOCs from SP of East Khasi Hills, District Council and Rangbah Shongs.

He also informed that in 2017, when that company was found to be involved in criminal activities, investigation was conducted, people involved were arrested and action were taken against them.

Hitting out at Mukul, who has raised an issue which is a closed chapter, the Chief Minister said, “LO is blaming the government for transfer of an Investigating Officer, who was transferred in 2019, when the investigation on the call centre continue for almost two years beginning from 2017. He was transferred on a routine procedure.”

“In March 2018, we took over the Government, if we wanted to interfere in the investigation, we would have transferred the officer immediately… but we allowed a free and fair investigation,” he added.

He also asked Mukul to recollect on the child prostitution racket that was unearth in a Shillong hotel owned by then Home Minister of the State, when Dr. Mukul was the Chief Minister.

“A child prostitution racket was busted in a city hotel owned by a Congress Minister in Dr. Mukul’s government… surprisingly, the investigating officer of that case was transferred within a month… ,” the Chief Minister said, while indicating that opposition should not make baseless allegation.

Conrad termed the attack on SS Netcom Pvt Ltd and his family as ‘unfortunate’ and ‘baseless’. He also said that Mukul had only tried to misrepresent facts and the truth, but he has been caught.
