SHILLONG, DEC 15: The Joint Action Committee Muster Roll Workers Union (JACMRWU) has decided to postpone its planned agitation scheduled to begin on December 16, following an assurance from Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to meet with the union representatives.
According to Bympherlang Pyndem, General Secretary of JACMRWU, the union had been pushing for the implementation of Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA), Floor Rate, and retirement age benefits for muster roll workers.
The union had previously protested on November 22 and met with the Labour Commissioner on December 3 to discuss their demands.
“The Commissioner clarified that the GST reform has reduced the cost of essential commodities, hence they cannot enhance the VDA. We have asked for written substantiation, but he failed to provide it,” Pyndem stated.
The union had sought an appointment with the Chief Minister, which was finally confirmed for December 17 or early January 2026.
“We will wait for the Chief Minister’s call and continue to follow up on our demands,” Pyndem added.
The union is also urging the Chief Minister to direct the Animal Husbandry department to release pending salaries of Muster Roll workers, which have been pending for six months.
