KOHIMA, June 30: The Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Government of Nagaland, observed the 20th National Statistics Day 2026 at its premises in Kohima on June 29, underscoring the importance of credible data in shaping public policy and promoting sustainable development.
The programme was attended by Director of Economics and Statistics Neidilhou Keditsu, along with officers and staff of the department. The day is celebrated nationwide to mark the birth anniversary of renowned statistician Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, regarded as the architect of India’s modern statistical system.
Addressing the gathering, Keditsu highlighted the growing role of reliable and timely statistics in evidence-based governance, policy formulation, and monitoring of government programmes.
He urged officials to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and accuracy in the collection, analysis and dissemination of official data.
The Director also lauded the efforts of the department’s personnel in strengthening Nagaland’s statistical framework and supporting informed decision-making across sectors.
The observance concluded with a renewed commitment by the Directorate to build a robust and efficient statistical system aimed at fostering transparency, better governance and inclusive development in the state.
