Kohima, June 15: Teachers recruited under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) in Nagaland in 2016 have warned that continued delay in implementing a court-ordered pay scale could affect upcoming school examinations if the issue remains unresolved.
The Nagaland RMSA Teachers’ Association (NRMSATA-16) said it has been more than four years since a court ruling granted them a revised pay band of ₹9,300–34,800 with a grade pay of ₹4,200, but the government has yet to implement the order.
The association recalled that it had suspended a three-week agitation in September last year after receiving assurances from the government that the pay scale would be implemented once a review petition was disposed of. However, despite the review petition being dismissed in January this year, the teachers allege that no concrete action has followed.
According to the association, legal opinion obtained by the government has reportedly indicated that all available legal remedies have been exhausted and that the court order should be implemented. Despite this, the matter remains unresolved.
The teachers also expressed concern over the delay in salary payments, claiming that they have not received their salaries for the past two months.
With the first phase final examinations for Classes 8 and 9 scheduled to begin on June 24, the association said it has no intention of disrupting students’ academic activities. However, it urged the government to act without further delay and deliver what it described as long-pending justice to the affected teachers.
The association said its members would meet shortly to decide their next course of action if the issue continues to remain unresolved.
