SHILLONG, JAN 9: The North Eastern Council (NEC) has successfully established a Model Handloom Production Centre at Marngar, Ri-Bhoi District with an investment of Rs 1.43 crore.
The centre, completed in December 2025, aims to revitalize traditional handloom practices and enhance the livelihoods of local weavers.
The centre has provided improved infrastructure and skill upgradation opportunities, particularly for women weavers, leading to improved product quality and diversification of handloom products.
This has strengthened sustainable livelihood opportunities, preserved indigenous weaving traditions, and enhanced the market competitiveness of Meghalaya’s handloom products.
