Tura, Feb 6: North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Tura campus, recently organised a significant workshop focused on promoting entrepreneurship in organic and natural farming within the North-East Region of India.
This workshop was held at the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (NEDFi) in Guwahati, Assam.
Dr. P. S. Pandey, Vice Chancellor of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Agricultural University, Samastipur, Bihar, and Mr. Dinesh Kulkarni, National Organising Secretary, Bhartiya Kisan Sangh, inaugurated the workshop in the presence of Dr. Vandna Dwedi, Former Addl. Commissioner, MoA&FW, Dr. Anup Das, Director ICAR R.C. for Eastern Region, Dr.Kadirvel, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Guwahati, and Dr. R. Sasikumar, Nodal Officer, Incubation Centre, NEHU Tura campus, Meghalaya.
Dr. P.S. Pandey highlighted the significance of entrepreneurship in organic and natural farming, emphasising its role in promoting sustainable agricultural practices in the North-Eastern Region of India.
NEHU’s Tura campus helping farmers
It must be noted that the Incubation Centre at NEHU’s Tura Campus has been helping farmers in different ways. They have programmes to teach and train, workshops, and support for farming groups. They work with ICAR-NIBSM in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, under the North East Hill Programme to help farmers in the North Eastern Region.
This program, guided by Dr. P. K. Ghosh and Dr. P. Mooventhan, supports farmers’ welfare and economic development.
Five years MoU
In 2020, they signed an agreement (MoU) between ICAR-NIBSM and NEHU for five years (2019–2024).
During this programme, different viable technologies and products were showcased by sartups, and two entrepreneurs signed an agreement (MoU) on making o-degradable, edible, eco-friendly plates and their accessories to avoid synthetic plastic-made items in our ecosystem under the Atmanirbhar Bharat.
