Guwahati, June 26: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has chargesheeted 11 individuals for allegedly conspiring to expand the network of an offshoot of the banned Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) terror outfit across West Bengal and the Northeast, including Assam and Tripura.
The chargesheet was filed before the NIA Special Court in Guwahati under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
According to the NIA, investigations revealed that the accused were actively involved with Imam Mahmuder Kafila (IMK), an offshoot of JMB allegedly created to spread the banned organisation’s extremist ideology in India, radicalise vulnerable youth and expand its operational network.

The agency said senior JMB member Imam Mahmud Habibullah had established IMK to further the outfit’s agenda on Indian soil. Investigators found that the accused allegedly sought to strengthen the IMK/JMB network through clandestine meetings, religious indoctrination programmes, circulation of extremist literature and the use of digital platforms to spread anti-India propaganda and promote allegiance to the outfit’s leadership.
Among those chargesheeted, Nasimuddin has been identified as the key figure leading IMK activities in Assam, while Jagir Mia allegedly headed the outfit’s operations in Tripura.
The NIA said it had recovered incriminating documents, electronic devices and digital records during the investigation, which formed the basis of the charges against the accused. The probe in the case, registered as RC-01/2026/NIA/GUW, is continuing, the agency added.
