Guwahati, Feb 18: In a shocking incident that transpired at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar on the night of February 16, 2024, a group of inebriated students reportedly attacked mess workers at Boys Hostel No. 7, a delayed report said today.
The incident occurred around 10:30 PM, sending shockwaves through the campus community.
Eyewitnesses recount a harrowing scene as the unruly students, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, not only physically assaulted the mess workers but also hurled verbal abuse, creating a chaotic and distressing atmosphere.
The workers, who were simply carrying out their duties, became victims of the students’ aggression.
On the retaliation, the Mess Workers have decided to lodge an official FIR against the students who were involved in it.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, as initial reports suggest that it may have been a result of personal conflicts or an impulsive act fueled by alcohol and drugs consumption.
The incident has sparked discussions among the student body, with many condemning the actions of their peers and calling for unity and respect within the campus community.
