Guwahati, Nov 29: The 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) drew to a spectacular close at Panaji, Goa on November 28 with a ceremony that transformed the festival stage into one of the country’s most extensive cultural showcases, highlighting India’s folk heritage, classical traditions, and contemporary artistic expression.

This year’s closing programme was designed as a sweeping national presentation—spanning the deserts of Rajasthan, the coastal arts of Karnataka, and the devotional traditions of India—reflecting the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat. But the evening’s standout highlight was the Northeast Cultural Showcase, curated by renowned artist Ranjit Gogoi, marking one of the festival’s most expansive representations of the region to date.
The Northeast was presented through a two-part programme celebrating both its deep ties to Indian cinema and the distinct cultural identities of its eight states.
The first segment featured a high-energy musical and dance tribute to the works of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, S.D. Burman, R.D. Burman, Zubeen Garg, and Papon, underscoring the region’s enduring influence on India’s cinematic soundscape.

The second segment delivered a sweeping folk panorama from across the Northeast, featuring Nyapa Cham and Zya Cham (Arunachal Pradesh), Bihu (Assam), Cheraw/Bamboo Dance (Mizoram), Wangala (Meghalaya), Pung Cholom (Manipur), Sangrain (Tripura) ,Warrior Dance (Nagaland) and Singhi Chaam (Sikkim).

Together, the performances showcased the region’s rich rhythm traditions, lyrical diversity, and vibrant colours—emerging as one of the most visually striking segments of the entire closing ceremony.
